Fireworks Safety Guide
Stay Safe. Celebrate Brightly.
At Ignite Fireworks, your safety is our top priority. Fireworks are amazing fun when handled properly — so before you light up the night, take a moment to read through our simple safety tips.
General Fireworks Safety
- 🔥 Adults only: Fireworks should only be lit or held by adults.
- 🚫 Never throw fireworks or return to one that hasn’t gone off — it could still explode.
- 🧨 Keep fireworks stored safely in a cool, dry place and well away from children before your event.
- 👶 Never let children pick up used fireworks — they can still be hot or live.
- 🚷 Under 18s cannot buy or possess fireworks in a public place.
- ✅ Buy only CE-marked fireworks to ensure they meet UK safety standards.
- 🏠 Point fireworks away from homes, trees, and flammable materials such as leaves or fences.
- 💧 Keep a bucket or two of water nearby in case of emergencies.
- 🎆 Choose a large, open area for your display to ensure everyone stays a safe distance away.
Sparkler Safety
Sparklers are fun but can burn at over 1,500°C — that’s hotter than a blowtorch! Handle them carefully, especially with children around.
- 🧤 Always wear gloves when holding sparklers.
- 🚫 Never give sparklers to children under 5 – they’re too young to handle them safely.
- 👗 Avoid loose or flowing clothing, which can catch fire easily.
- ✋ Hold sparklers at arm’s length, away from your body and others.
- 🏃♀️ Never run while holding a sparkler.
- 👖 Don’t put sparklers in pockets or hold more than one at a time.
- 👨👩👧 Always have an adult supervising when children are using sparklers.
- 💦 Once finished, place the hot end in a bucket of water to cool completely.
Emergency Advice
If an accident happens:
- 🧊 Stay calm and cool any burns immediately under cold running water for at least 10 minutes.
- 🏥 Seek medical help if you’re unsure how severe a burn is — always take children to hospital for assessment.
- ✂️ If clothing or material sticks to the burn, cut around it — never pull it off.
